Hope this helps, I encountered a similar problem and in my case it was the aftermath of putting out poison to control rats and mice. The areas you mention are likely spots for rodent activity. Depending on the temperature the odors last for approx. a week. The odor is also awful but I guess it's better than having your house taken over by these furry invaders.
